A sculptor who uses found objects, moulded components, and construction materials, Huma Bhabha reconfigures familiar materials into haunting, totemic works. Drawing largely on discarded refuse, Bhabha’s sculptures, many of which are mounted on pedestals or plinths, tow the line between figuration and abstraction, often hinting at a recognizable object while simultaneously shying away from any such form. Bhabha believes that materials are embedded with a certain mysticism that can be activated through the artist's touch, and as such, her works often contain a layering of materials that make visible her hand in all aspects of its construction.
Bhabha has been included in group exhibitions at notable institutions including: the International Center for Photography, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA PS1, the Whitney Museum of America Art, and the Palais de Tokyo.
