Jon Kessler Bio
About The Artist
Jon Kessler's kinetic, voyeuristic sculptures and installations update Dada's politicized machine aesthetic for the Information Age, often addressing themes related to war and control. His well-known 2005 installation The Palace at 4 a.m., titled after a famous sculpture by Giacometti, combined surveillance cameras, G.I. Joe action figures, and television monitors showing images from the Iraq war; the New York Times critic Michael Kimmelman called it "a tour-de-force of agitprop."
Kessler has had solo exhibitions at institutions such as the Drawing Center, P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and the Carnegie Museum, and has been featured in numerous international group shows, including the 1985 Whitney Biennial.
