This photograph features a leg covered in a bruise that is reminiscent of an iconic image of Jesus Christ. Taken by Bougatsos on her Blackberry, the image is playfully sacrilegious and flippant, while at the same time loaded with heavy symbolism. In some cultures, such a bizarre occurrence would be considered a miracle, attracting pilgrims and alms. Although Bougatsos doesn't seem to interpret the appearance of Jesus on her own leg as a gift from God, she does take care to document its occurrence, thereby pointing out that as much as we think we're immune to superstition, religious iconography continues to command notice, even in the form of kitsch.
