About The Artist

Read an interview with Orly Genger about her work here.

Knitting, knotting, and crocheting by hand, Orly Genger builds overwhelming sculptures that command the space they occupy. Intent on engaging her viewers both physically and psychologically, her colossal cubes tower, pile, and spill into the installation space. Genger's labor-intensive practices use the malleability of rope to present the material with both the rigidity of metal and the soft undulation of yarn, reminiscent of chainmail. Merging craft traditions with the process-based orientation of post-Minimalist sculpture, her immense installations create a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.

Orly Genger by Jaclyn Mayer is a collaboration between designer Jaclyn Mayer and artist Orly Genger. The jewelry is based on the knotting technique used in Genger's sculptures. Everything is done by hand without hooks or needles. These pieces juxtapose the industrial ropes from Genger's art with the design aesthetic of Mayer's jewelry. The result is jewelry delicate in the detailing yet powerful and strong when worn.
