PRAZ-DELAVALLADE
ParisPraz-Delavallade is primarily defined by its commitment to Los Angeles based artists. This constant support and involvement dates as far back as to the beginnings of the gallery in the early 1990s. Praz-Delavallade came to be among the first to present the works of Jim Shaw, Julian Hoeber, Sam Durant, Analia Saban or Marnie Weber in Europe, making its gallery a major cultural diffusion place of the California contemporary art scene in Europe. While still working with these same artists, the gallery continues to explore that particular scene today and is proud to add new California based artists years after years. Matthew Brandt, Amanda Ross-Ho, Matthew Chambers, Dan Levenson, EJ Hill or Joe Reihsen are just a few of those that could be mentioned.
Our efforts have resulted in a greater awareness of this scene in Europe and broader America and are responsible for the presence of these artists in major private but also public collections worldwide and furthermore lead to large-scale exhibitions: Marnie Weber's retrospective at MAMCO (2016), « Wasteland » group exhibition at Mona Bismarck American Center in Paris with works by Analia Saban, Amanda Ross-Ho and Ry Rocklen (2016), Jim Shaw's retrospective at the New Museum (2015) and exhibitions at the Chalet Society (2014) and at CAPC Museum in Bordeaux (2010) and at BALTIC (UK) in 2013, Analia Saban’s exhibition at the Blaffer Art Museum in Houston (2016) or the presentation of a monumental piece by Sam Durant at Documenta 13 among other examples.
In addition, Praz-Delavallade also represents European artists including Philippe Decrauzat, Pierre Ardouvin, Fabien Mérelle or Julien Nédélec. The gallery supports and promotes these artists who have been the subject of multiple solo exhibitions: Pierre Ardouvin's exhibition at MAC/VAL (2016), Philippe Decrauzat at Le Magasin in Grenoble (2014) or Julien Nédélec at Centre d'art Albert Chanot in Clamart (2015).
After having been at the origin of the creation of Rue Louise Weiss art district in Paris, the gallery is now located in Le Marais. In order to further commit to its specific relationship with Los Angeles and better promote both its European and American artists in the United-States, Praz-Delavallade opened a sister gallery in Los Angeles in January 2017 at 6150 Wilshire Blvd. Thereby our goal is to benefit both sides, introducing this specific California scene to the French and European art world while offering European and Californian artists a chance to gain international recognition.
