Per Bak Jensen

Photographer Per Bak Jensen sets his lens on the natural world. After graduating from Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1986 (where he would later teach), Jensen turned his eye to the oft overlooked elements of the world around him, pushing the boundaries of the landscape genre. The artist carefully places nature within his frame, reducing phenomena such as stone, water, mist, and sky to form and line, resulting in what has been described as a "mythical realism." He brings a dreamlike quality to his subjects, conjuring an otherworldly quality in his careful compositions and transforming the near-invisible bits of the backdrop of daily life into poetic forms. Bak Jensen shoots in both black and white and color, turning particular attention to subtlety of tone in both. The artist does not manipulate his photographs in any way, a commitment arising from a pre-digital acquaintance with his media. Bak Jensen has exhibited heavily in his home country of Denmark and internationally.
