About The Work
A hand signed vintage offset-lithograph exhibition poster on heavy wove paper by American artist Robert Longo (1953-) titled "Men in the Cities: Gretchen", 1991. Published for Act Up and Amnesty International. Text at bottom right margin: A portion of the proceeds goes to benefit Act Up and Amnesty International. © 1991 Robert Longo. The image reproduced on this poster is Longo's 1982 untitled work featuring one of his models, Gretchen, a charcoal and graphite on paper.
Robert Longo’s “Men in Cities” series, featuring well-dressed individuals in a variety of contorted poses, constitutes an instantly-recognizable and longstanding body of work now synonymous with the artist’s name. Set on the rooftop of Longo’s apartment building, these images capture figures as they duck and dive from flying objects launched by the artist. Authentically frantic and reactionary, the works reveal unexpected moments of bodily grace.
