About the Work
This Rona Yefman piece, which comes as a do-it-yourself kit, enables the collector to make the work using a stencil and a can of fluorescent pink spray paint. It is a limited edition print from a collaborative project between artists Rona Yefman and Tanja Schlander, entitled Pippi Longstocking, The Strongest Girl in the World! Through video, performance, photography, text and installation, Yefman and Schlander re-imagine Pippi Longstocking, a heroine created as a role model for girls during WWII, in contemporary terms, providing her with humor, absurdity, grace, and amazing strength.
About the Artist
Born in Israel, Yefman currently lives and works in New York. Raised as a female in a male-dominated conflict zone, Yefman's work explores anarchy, radicalism and freedom, as well as highlighting her own personal search for freedom from the psychological, physical and social restraints of her upbringing.
She is a recipient of the Ingeborg Bachmann Scholarship established by Anselm Kiefer and awarded by the Wolf Foundation to a young Israeli artist, the Gerard Levy Prize for a young photographer from the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, the Lotos Club Award in New York and the 2009 Rema Hort Mann Scholarship.
