Read MoreUntitled is part of the artist's Mythology series which is an exploration of the human condition. In this series, the artist's human subject is matched with the element of stone to suggest ideas of victory or defeat, of power or weakness. Rocks and stones have great cultural significance in both Western and Eastern culture: be it Sisyphus moving a bolder up to the top of the mountain only to have it roll down again, or the stones that are endowed with magical properties in traditional Chinese lore. The rock in Yin Zhaoyang's paintings are deeply intertwined with his humanistic concern and reflections on society.
