Christina Quarles

Christina Quarles was born in Chicago, IL in 1985 and raised in Los Angeles, CA, where she is currently based. Quarles completed her BA at Hampshire College in 2007 with a double concentration in Philosophy and Studio Arts. She earned her MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Yale University in 2016.


Quarles has been the recipient of a number of awards and grants including the Pérez Prize (2019); Rema Hort Mann Foundation Emerging Artist Grant (2017); and the Robert Schoelkopf Memorial Traveling Fellowship at Yale University (2015); among others. Work by the artist is featured in the permanent collections of numerous museums worldwide including Tate Modern, London; Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art, Oslo; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Pérez Art Museum, Miami; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, Berkeley; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles; The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; and Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; among others.
