Fred Sandback

Fred Sandback was a conceptual sculptor known for his minimalist installations, drawings, and prints. Early in his career Sandback used various materials, such as wire and elastic cord, but soon began using only acrylic yarn for his line sculptures. With this weightless material he outlined planes and volumes in space. When speaking about his work, Sandback said that it “doesn’t take over a space, but rather coexists with it.”

Fred Sandback’s work is included in the permanent collections of the Centre Georges Pompidou, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt am Main, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, among others. His estate is represented by David Zwirner in New York.
