    About The Work

Chiara Banfi’s sculptures and wall pieces reconfigure the materiality of music. In Gibson Sheryl Crowe Electro Acoustic, da série Vialão, the artist has isolated a shape found on a specific model of Gibson guitar - the pickguard, a thin layer of plastic that protects the wood guitar body from becoming scratched when strummed with a pick. The shape of the pickguard has been isolated and abstracted, becoming a signifier for a unique sound associated with a unique guitar.
