    About The Work

Touring with emerging punk and and new wave bands of the 1970’s, Bob Gruen had the ultimate backstage pass, snapping candid, behind-the-scenes photos for magazine features on legends like the New York Dolls, Sex Pistols, Clash, Ramones, and Patti Smith Group. In 1973 he captured this iconic shot of Led Zeppelin posed in front of their plane. In 2014 he began using silkscreen methods to create variations on his photographs, such as this work where Gruen reinterprets the original by tinting its black and white tones and colorizing select elements with vibrant hues.
