    About The Work

Artist Malcolm Morley based this riveting, action-packed lithograph (made in an edition of 175) on newspaper photographs of the 2001 Nascar crash that killed racing great Dale Earnhardt. Morley first developed his photo-realist style in the 1960s, as an extension of the era’s thriving Pop movement. Not surprisingly, his meticulous recreation of a violent news story—the brightly colored, crisp vehicles are enclosed in billowing heaps of smoke—aptly echoes Andy Warhol’s Death and Disaster series.
