About The Work

Part of the Dusseldorf School of German Formalism, Götz Diergarten takes topographic photographs of vernacular architecture throughout Europe, such as storefronts and metro stations. His work follows in the lineage of his professor, Bernd Becher, evident from his documentary style and frontal perspective. However, unlike his predecessor, Diergarten underscores color in his scenes. His brightly-hued palette and eye for texture imbue his photographs with a painterly sensibility, as seen in this work taken from a series of beach cabins in Gouville-sur-Mer, France.
