About The Work
Within his paintings, sculptures, and installations, Hadi Fallahpisheh places seemingly humorous figures including cats, mice, and other animals within environments to reflect on themes of displacement, alienation, and entrapment. Situated behind barriers, inside vessels, or within other architectural environments, his works explore social hierarchies, ideas of residence, and the inside versus the outside. While some of Fallahpisheh’s characters seem trapped or isolated, others appear to revel in their own personal vices.
This new series of ten unique works, titled Mouse House, is a continuation of the artist’s use of vessels as shelters or hiding places. Comprising two pieces that interlock, each hand-sculpted work is a mouse that is both placed within and functioning as its own shelter. The figures are completed with rhinestone eyes, a fabric tail, gilded whiskers, and a pendant necklace draped over their backside. Each work is numbered and initialed by the artist.
Hadi Fallapisheh’s Mouse House is a specially commissioned series for SculptureCenter’s Limited Edition program. All proceeds directly support our exhibitions and programs dedicated to emerging artists.
