This limited edition silk twill scarf features Kehinde Wiley's painting, ‘Equestrian Portrait of the Count-Duke Olavares," 2005, which is a reinterpretation of the portrait of the Count-Duke by Diego Velázquez. The painting shows Wiley's interest in updating aristocratic portraiture for the contemporary audience by depicting a Black subject posed in a powerful equestrian stance as his horse prepares to gallop into battle. While the horse majestically stands on its hindlegs, the subject looks back to engage with the viewer, portraying an air of confidence and sophistication. The scarf is made from Italian silk twill with the image printed on both sides and is presented in a monogrammed rigid box, wrapped in branded tissue paper.
Net proceeds from your purchase support Black Rock, Wiley's artist in residence program in Dakar, Sénégal.
