    About The Work

1-2-3 Go depicts the opening moments of New York City’s annual marathon, when thousands of runners fill the Verrazano-Narrows bridge that connects Staten Island to Brooklyn. One of many staples of New York life memorialized in Red Grooms’s work, the image of the bridge packed from front to back with exhilarated runners has become an iconic image of life in the city.
