About The Institute of Contemporary Art Boston
For more than half a century, the ICA has presented contemporary art in all media—visual arts, film and video, performance, and literature—and created educational programming that has inspired the reflection, inspiration, provocation, and imagination of contemporary culture.
Among the artists introduced to U.S. audiences by the ICA are Cubist artist Georges Braque and Expressionists Oskar Kokoschka and Edvard Munch. Laurie Anderson, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, and Andy Warhol were each the subject of ICA presentations early in their careers. More recently, the ICA was pivotal in the careers of Janine Antoni, Vanessa Beecroft, Ellen Gallagher, Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons, Cildo Meireles, Tony Oursler, Cornelia Parker, Carol Rama, Cindy Sherman, Bill Viola, Kara Walker, and Rachel Whiteread.
