Marguerite Humeau

Marguerite Humeau is an interdisciplinary artist who creates sculptures, installations, and videos. Her work brings together many areas of research, including literature, biology, history, and astronomy to form surreal narrative experiences. To prepare for a project, Humeau speaks to specialists in theses fields. She then creates work that attempts to bring together their worlds while also pointing to holes in various spheres of knowledge. In the video, The Things?, Humeau attempts to communicate with aliens. This work was inspired by the combined discovery of creatures that do not rely on oxygen or sunlight in Antartica and the knowledge that this environment is the closest equivalent to one of Jupiter’s moons.

Marguerite Humeau’s work has been shown in various solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums, including Palais de Tokyo, Paris, Manifesta 11, Zürich, the Serpentine Gallery, London, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Hayward Gallery, London. Her work has been recognized internationally through various talks, awards, and publications, such as Mousse, Blau, Metropolis M, The New York Times, Elephant Magazine, Kaleidoscope, Monopol, TAR magazine, I-D, Berlin Art Link, Artnet, Sleek Magazine, NPR, and France Culture.
