Working from original Polaroid images, Chuck Close creates large-scale portraits in both color and vivid black and white. Renowned for his inventive and detailed techniques, Close’s practice extends beyond painting to encompass printmaking, photography, and, most recently, tapestries. In this archival photographic image of legendary feminist artist Renée Cox, Close captures each minute detail that constructs Cox’s face, from the lines on her forehead to the sheen of her skin, her gaze complex.
