About The Work

This painting is the artist's rendering of Hell. We see hundreds of small faces descending into a fiery swirl of reds, yellows and blues. The faces seem to get darker in color as they get closer to the center of the painting. The outermost swirl of faces are pink with red and blue facial features, then they transition into a light blue, and finally black.

Hell started the concept of paintings composed of small faces, representing dead souls. It is also the first canvas of an afterlife triptych. For years the artist had worked on a film project called Lost Lands based on a story by George RR Martin (author of Game of Thrones) and was getting tired of the process. Raising money for a film is called Development Hell for a reason and the souls burning in his painting represent the many liars, frauds and hopeless dreamers he has met during his journey as a director.
