    About The Work

The ceramic Little Big House Butter Dish by Erwin Wurm is based on the Fat House series of sculptures the artist started in 2003. At that time, focusing on the association between technical and biological systems Wurm created a series of life-size swollen symbols of our consumers' society such as cars or houses, delivering a snappy and striking commentary.

He also directed a video in which one of the Fat House argues with itself and poses existential questions to the incoming visitor, such as: ‘When does a house become art and who determines that?’ Fat House might at first glance look like humorous sculptures, but with them, the artist is seeking to cast doubt on our notions of common sense. Here reduced to the size of handable object, the little big house butter dish is ceramic tableware intended in an ironic manner, to welcome a fair amount of fresh butter.
