About The Work
Jay Walker's latest series, "Inner Space," analyzes a single motif built from repeating parallel lines that is commonly found in his work. In this series of 12 works, Walker explores how complementary colors push and pull against each other to create shifting forms. In a range of hand-mixed warm or cool reds, greens, and blues, his layered color patterns dance across the surface in designs filled with movement, depth, and energy.
Walker is best known for his large-scale, site-specific installations and collector's pieces created with laser-cut vinyl, colored acrylic sheets, artist-made stencils, tape, and paint. His use of pattern, lines, color, and geometry references the aesthetic traditions of Sol Lewitt and Henri Matisse, applied to the contemporary experience. Walker earned his MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, and his BFA from Texas A&M at Corpus Christi. He has had international commissions across the US and internationally, and solo exhibitions at galleries throughout the mid-Atlantic and southwest.
