    About The Work

Mapping the projected desires and motivations of his subjects, the deeply psychological work of Leigh Ledare interweaves a variety of media and imagery. His notorious 2008 book, Pretend You’re Actually Alive, contains a series of highly explicit images featuring the artist’s mother, Tina Peterson. Interspersed with tender portraits of Peterson and various family members, the project transgressed social structure and taboo, providing a raw documentation of familial relationships. This powerful black and white image, Brother High, depicts Ledare’s brother, his face contorted due to severe intoxication.
