Arguably the most celebrated artist of the modern era, Pablo Picasso’s influence on art history is undeniable. Known for gestural strokes, Cubist abstraction and a strict adherence to technique, Picasso’s style shifted greatly over the course of his massive career, however certain themes remained throughout. In this aquatint from 1934, Chez la Pythie-Harpye. Homme au Masque de Minotaure et Femme au Masque de Sculpteur, Picasso composes a scene of masked revelry, rendered using simple contour lines and shadowy tones.
