About The Work
In his recognizably lustrous black and white style, acclaimed photojournalist Sebastião Salgado captures the silent, natural beauty of environments and communities around the world in their unindustrialized state. Big Horn Creek in Kluane National Park and Reserve, located in a nearly inaccessible region of Canada’s Yukon Territory, near the border with Alaska depicts the valley divide of a mountain creek, snaking its way through treacherous terrain. The intensity of light in this photograph resonates with the artist’s adherence to simplicity, yet also contributes to the eerie, otherworldly quality of the image, which appears almost hyper-real.
