    About The Work

Created exclusively for PA Magazine, an annual publication with a focus on critical and visual dialogue between contemporary photographers, 19 August 2013 is a collaboration between artist Tacita Dean and photographer Boris Mikhailov. Sparked by a comment Mikhailov made concerning Dean’s films, the two began a visual conversation taking inspiration from ancient stone carvings and “rock art.” Dean wrote about the resulting figures, “Perhaps what we are doing here with our rock voodoo is trading in respect for each other’s unselfconsciousness across a continent and a society of difference.”
