MoMA Opening, 2007 - Amy Sillman

About the Work

MoMA Opening is art about art: a caricature of the disconnected relationship between art, the viewer, and even its creator. Amy Sillman pokes fun at the inner circle of the art world and the ever-present elitism surrounding fine art.

About the Artist

In 2009, Amy Sillman announced a formal “break-up” from Abstraction on Bomblog, citing that she briefly considered Representation and then decided that she’d be better off “playing the field.” This statement demonstrates Sillman’s quirky attitude and her satirical parodies of the haute art world. A talented painter, Sillman has continually redefined her artistic career, and after a trip to Berlin, she began designing a humorous, independent ‘zine on the art world, which she shows in addition to her Abstract Expressionist paintings.
