    About The Work

As an artist William Stockman digests the world of imagery around and within him in an alchemical fashion. Maintaining a practice that involves a diaristic routine of drawing with charcoal, he re-processes content in real-time transforming often fleeting content into vital moments. Pulling from pictorial imagery sifted from the daily newspaper as well as his own experiences and observations, Stockman strips away the specificity of any particular narrative in favor of archetype, allegory and the ineffability of gesture. This daily ritual results in spare yet strongly evocative works on paper.
