Working from an original Polaroid image, Chuck Close created a large-scale photogravure of his self portrait in vivid black and white. Close's own self examinations have long provided material for both his paintings and photography; here, he captures each minute detail that constructs his face, from the lines on his forehead to the white of his beard, his gaze both curious and critical.
