About The Work
Invited to the LeRoy Neiman Center for Print Studies in the summer of 2009 for a joint artist residency program, Egyptian artist Ghada Amer and Iranian artist Reza Farkhondeh created a new printmaking technique using the media of silkscreen. The team at Neiman Center assisted in the creation of this series of monoliths, mixing akua color and caran d'ache pigments with solvents to develop a saturated medium—used to manipulate shape when dropped through a traditional silkscreen. The results of these experimental new techniques are apparent and the usually hard lines of traditional silkscreen melt away, the pigment bleeding out and creating a delicately hazy spectrum. Combining the erotic themes in their work with this radical process of color, Amer and Farkhondeh have created a stunningly unique and fanciful series.
