About The Work
Cultural and historical reference is morphed into stunning scenes of dark fantasy in the work of Inka Essenhigh. Known for her stylishly twisted aesthetic and almost sculptural drawing technique, Essenhigh transforms her subjects with a visual energy elevated by the color, movement and detail in her work. In this six-color silkscreen print, the artists’ signature amorphic characters are depicted against a background of flat blue. Says Essenhigh of her print works, “the stuff I was making for pajamas was more interesting and more fun than anything I was making in my studio. So I went back to my studio and made wallpaper for girls and wallpaper for boys…I knew I was on the right track.”
