About The Work
A central figure in the New York City performance art movement of the Sixties, Joan Jonas produces work that investigates interactions between space and perception. Elements of dance, theater, and movement are highly visible, even in her works on paper. In this archival print, a wide-eyed fish is rendered in quick, emotive strokes of blue. “I explore the place of women in history as outsiders—healers—witches—storytellers,” says Jonas of her highly energetic oeuvre.
