About The Work

For decades, John Baldessari has been reducing art down to its most fundamental and vital gestures. Here, the West Coast father of Conceptual Art uses appropriation and erasure to do just that: by infusing new meaning and energy into everyday imagery, Baldessari achieves a result that is at once playful and alluring. From the National City series, this work contrasts an archival photograph of Baldessari’s hometown with a hand-painted acrylic circle.
