    About The Work

Elegantly subverting scenes of Americana and art culture, the work of Sean Mellyn touches on the intersection of kitsch, camp and high art in contemporary society. In this chromatic print—a line of six colorized portraits of impressionist painter Claude Monet—the artist plays with elements of tourism and marketing, commenting on the commodification of Monet’s work, home and gardens. Mellyn’s fascination with Monet began during his 2008 Munn Artists Program at Giverny residency and went on to inspire his long time project, Paper Monet.
