About The Work

This work by Thomas Scheibitz is a bright and angular series of abstract images filled with crisp lines and blocks of unobstructed color. Unlike some of his other paintings, there is no obvious suggestion of landscape or portrait or representation of some familiar object, though the mind can create spaces and figures out of the planes of color. The lines, curves, and shapes are severe and ambiguous, but also vibrant and exhilarating.

About Thomas Scheibitz

Thomas Scheibitz is a sculptor and painter whose work, though highly abstract, often reveals familiar elements upon closer examination: buildings or landscapes simplified into bold and gestural shapes and colors. In his paintings in particular he plays with these familiar shapes and renders his works into patchworks of color blocks and thick lines. While his paintings are structured in terms of line and composition, the patchy and streaky brushwork often lends the imprecision that strikes an emotional resonance, sometimes agitated and other times unexpectedly soft.
