Jordan Kasey

The grandly surreal works of up-and-coming painter Jordan Kasey capture the porous, spiritual nature of humanity in darkly psychedelic tones. Her large-scale figurative works translate everyday occurrences—eating a bowl of cereal, riding a rollercoaster, a trip to the beach—into a fantastic visual language of shadows and hidden faces. Kasey says of her work, “I conceive of how a painting will feel before envisioning how it will look. Centered on universal sensations—anxiety, strength, calm—my work presents a contemplation of timeless, atemporal human experiences. I seek to illuminate subtle, internal states that would be lost in a narrative scene.”

Kasey has shown her works in solo and two-person exhibitions at Signal, Brooklyn, Nicelle Beauchene, New York, Greenpoint Terminal, Brooklyn, and Whole Gallery, Baltimore. Her group exhibitions include Thierry Goldberg, New York, American Medium, Brooklyn, Cuevas Tilleard, New York, and the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, Wilmington, among others. In 2015 she was a nominee for the Rema Hort Mann Foundation Emerging Artist Grant.
