Mark Dion (American, born in 1961) was awarded a BFA in 1986 and an honorary doctorate in 2002 from the Hartford Art School of the University of Hartford, CT. He attended the School of Visual Arts, NY from 1983-1984 and the Whitney Museum’s Independent Study Program from 1984-1985. Dion is an Honorary Fellow of Falmouth University in the UK and has an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from The Wagner Free Institute of Science in Philadelphia. He has received several awards, including the Larry Aldrich Foundation Award, The Joan Mitchell Foundation Award, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Lucida Art Award. Dion has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions and his work is represented in museum collections here and abroad.
