About The Work
Long considered one of Germany’s most influential artists, the work of Isa Genzken combines Minimalism, assemblage, punk culture and architectural reference to subvert traditional notions of the modern experience. Working in sculpture, photography, installation, drawing, painting and collage, Genzken constantly re-invents her own process while maintaining a striking aesthetic. In this offset print on Gardagloss, the artist overlays various cut images to create a composition reminiscent of an absurdist magazine layout—black and white images of a chain link fence and garden hedge are juxtaposed with that of a motorcycle race, a blue cartoon rabbit peering over the driver’s shoulder.
This image come directly from Mach Dich Hübsch, an artist book by Genzken that combines found and taken photographs, magazine pages, and scraps of paper elements from other sources into a diaristic collage book.
