About The Work
My Grandpa Went to See Hell and All I Got Was This Lousy Souvenir is part of the Chapman brothers' larger series of sculptural vignettes Hell. The enamel and resin sculpture trades on both the souvenirs sold to promote grand events and the honor given to the generation who fought and lived through World War II (including the artists' grandparents.) In this scene, some of the grotesque horrors of war are inventoried.
