    About The Work

Best known for expressing hegemonic power through the grids of prisons and cells, Neo-Geo painter Peter Halley favors figurative source material over the non-objective abstraction of the 20th century. For his collaboration with Massif Central, Halley has printed another of his recurring abstractions—the explosion—onto a silk textile resplendent in pastel hues. Comparing them to his grids the artist has said, “The explosions, on the other hand, are about the disruption of systems. An explosion is generally the transformation of one thing into another thing.
