    About The Work

Roger Ballen's enigmatic photographs appear at first to be drawings or etchings or paintings, but on closer inspection, they reveal an extremely fine-tuned eye. In Trails, Ballen isolates a gecko and a fish within a small circle, backdropped by a pattern of fingerprints. Here, Ballen creates a sketchy, primal image from elements of human and animal life.
