    About The Work

This film still from de Beer's 2004 video Disappear Here, Meghan Lynch, like most of her work, features a heavily made-up, brazen coquette about to burst forth from the strictures placed on her. Dressed in a girl scouts uniform, Meghan Lynch’s face is slightly out of focus—her dyed black hair hanging around her pale face, alluding to more ominous teenage undertones. A mixture of history, fantasy, and feminist critique, this image proves de Beer is not only an artist, but a cultural anthropologist.
