    About The Work

One of the factors that may have contributed to Man Ray’s close friendship with Marcel Duchamp was a shared love of the game of chess, which both artists appreciated for its emphasis on abstract, unseen mental processes. This chess set is produced after the original edition Man Ray made in 1920, using pure geometric forms—the pyramidal king piece, for instance, refers to the burial pyramids of the Egyptian pharaohs. The set is re-editioned under license by the Man Ray Trust.
