About The Work
In this edition for the BAM+NADA portfolio, artist and writer Josh Abelow has created one of his tongue-in-cheek self portraits. Using his signature blend of abstracted geometry and humor, Abelow creates an entirely original rendering of his own image. Composed around a central fleshy-pink abstraction, the artist’s face is made up of separate but arranged elements, including large spiraled curls and the face of a small dog emerging from his hair. Despite a deft simplification of color and composition, the artist’s irreverent handling of paint and form poke fun at the idea of artistic genius and its inherent narcissism.
