About The Work
This printed sheet of paper was taken from a past manifestation of an artwork by Felix Gonzalez-Torres that was made in conjunction with Christopher Wool.
In collaboration with Felix Gonzales-Torres, Christopher Wool created this poster featuring Wool's characteristic lines of closely packed text. Drawn from Russian philosopher Vasili Rozanov’s work on nihilism, the poster reads: "The show is over, the audience get up to leave their seats, time to collect their coats and go home, they turn around, no more coats, no more home." Wool had used the phrase in a previous billboard work, but originally created this accompanying poster to support the Printed Matter bookshop in New York.
The edition size of the work is unknown, as visitors to the shop were allowed to take a poster from an eight inch stack. The image has been featured at, amongst others, MoMA PS1 and Gagosian Gallery in London.
