This original, unique drawing is the earliest example of Warhol's that Caviar20 has ever carried. Completed in black and pink ink, this hand-drawn portrait depicts actress Hermione Gingold (1897-1987) with a rose clutched between her teeth.
Gingold was an English-American actress known for her eccentric, articulate characters defined by her distinctly deep voice. A star of stage and screen, Gingold fearlessly took on over-the-top roles in film, television, and stage.
Throughout the 1950's as Warhol became more established in New York City he received numerous awards and accolades for his illustrations.
"Portrait of Hermione Gingold" is one of the earliest examples of Warhol's female portraiture and an essential part of his artistic evolution. Tragically, despite being separated by decades in age, both stars passed away in 1987.
As the Warhol market continues to gallop to a stratosphere beyond, there are fewer and fewer examples of unique, original works in circulation.
